Every time I audit a local business, one of the many things always shocks me that is citations. People list their business on wrong countries, wrong cities, wrong websites, and even wrong niches.
Recently was doing an audit of USA’s limo company, it was listed in Bangalore (India) directories, it was also listed under real estate directory and even a Halal food directory.
How will Google understand what that business actually does? Or How will even google rank it?
In Local SEO, there are 3 main types of citations:
✔ General – Major directories
✔ Industry-specific –plumbers, doctors
✔ Local – City or region-based sites.
Local SEO stands on 3 strong pillars:
① Prominence (Brand) | Proximity (Location) | Relevance (Keyword/Niche) All of these plays a vital role in Rankings/Branding.
② Another common blunder that I found was inconsistent business names. If your real name is Smile Dentals Ohio but on some sites it’s Dentals Ohio, Google may don’t trust you.
Your Name, Address, Phone (NAP) must match exactly on:
① Website
② Socials
③ GMB
④ Every citation
Key Takeaways:
① Don’t list in wrong countries or niches
② Keep your NAP 100% same everywhere
③ Focus on relevant, local, and clean citations
④ If you hire someone for citations, check their work once
⑤ Relevance builds trust, and trust builds ranking
💼 Build trust. Get found. Grow faster.
